We Can Fix It

Karma is when you do something and then endure the results whether good or bad.
Much of the immigration problem today is the result of what we have done over the past few decades.

Tens of thousands of Venezuelans are in or coming to the United States is the direct result of the conditions which we caused by trying to oust their political leaders. We almost overturned the government with sanctions and destroying their economy. Conditions have gotten so bad for the majority of the people they have no choice but to leave the country they love. Perhaps if we turned the policies around, the immigrants would return home. Those policies are the result of both the Republican and the Democrat Presidents and Congresses.

The immigrants from Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador are coming to the country that has interfered in their country for over a century. The countries are overrun with gangs we exported from California and corrupted dictators we sponsored and were bad for their countries. Of course climate change has contributed to the anxiety of living in those countries. Together hundreds of thousands have come to live in a safer place.

Both American political parties are responsible for this mess but don’t expect either one to fix the roots causing the immigration flood. If both parties acted the flood of people would be flowing South towards home. The people you elected know how to solve the problem but they won’t because not enough of us will tell them to fix it.

Catch 22

Somewhere around 1970, one of my college classes made me aware of the population boom and its projections for the future. At that time the world had about three and a half billion people and now we are closing in on nine billion. The average age of that population is rapidly increasing putting pressure on Social Services, Social Security, Medicare, and the labor market.

We currently have over 340 million with 60 million over 65 years of age. 74 million are under 18 years old. Adding both together means at least 134 million are not of working age leaving 200 million possible. We know 10s of millions of those remaining are unable to work for one reason or another. 20 of those millions have disabilities making them unable to do any work.

As our population has grown, we demand more goods and services. Much of the services must be performed in America but our goods have been off shored to keep costs low. Geo-political conditions and transportation problems tell us that those foreign plants can’t always supply items on time. The government and companies are going to re-shore thousands of those plants needing people to work at them. America is close to 100 percent employment. Even if a few million decided to un-retire we won’t have enough people to do all the work.

Many jobs do not have people wanting to do them because they are strenuous and low paying. As much as most Americans dislike seeing people walking across the Southern border, we need them doing those jobs. Those people not from crime ridden and terrorism countries will be retiring back in their home country.

We need a way for most of those people to come in and work in the vegetable field, landscaping, medical facilities, and many other places dependent on lightly trained people.

Coming Across the Border

They are crossing the border to live here. They might be carrying some disease, we don’t know. We do know they want their descendants to be born in this county.

We are trying to stop them at the border but we have been unsuccessful. Walls don’t stop them so we are trying to find their homes. Some people have resorted to making their homes uninhabitable. Small groups of people have proclaimed they are poisoning these immigrants.

So far these people claimed to have killed hundreds but the news stories have only shown three bodies. The people hunting and killing these immigrants wear white and masks hide their faces. They even wear gloves.

Who are those immigrants and where do they come from? Surprise! They are killer hornets crossing the Canadian border.

What Would You Do?

I am a farmer but my land has been hit by two hurricanes which washed away part of my land’s soil and landslides dumped rocky worthless soil and rocks on the rest. My house was destroyed and two of my children were lost.

Since I couldn’t farm any more I moved the rest of us into the city. Most of my surviving neighbors went too. We tried to find good jobs but unemployment was already high so I could only get an occasional low paying day job. They barely pay the rent on the shack we could afford. We often go without a meal so the kids can have something each day.

My sons go to school but the way to school is through several gang territories. They are often confronted with the gang members saying join or die. Many of the older kids have run away, hid, or died because they didn’t want to join. Murder and kidnapping are common. The people can’t help the honest cops who are brave enough to try to apprehend the criminals for fear of being the next victims. Judges often let the gang members off because they know gang threats are real.

The gangs that were exported from Los Angeles to my country have as much control as the corrupt government. They are vicious killers with no regard or compassion for the people.

What would you do if you were that person? Would you take your family to a safer place or at least send your children to a safer place? This story is what has happened to tens of thousands of Central American families.

Immigration is Karma

So much fuss is being made over the children coming up from Guatemala and Honduras. People are missing the reason the kids are fleeing their homes. Some families come for economic reasons and climate change but the vast majority is for safety. Those countries are controlled by gangs. Gangs rape, ill, extortion, kidnap, and force the kids they don’t kill to join them. Usually it is join or the family is killed.

The media doesn’t go back to when and how the gangs got started and took control of those nations. We are the reason! We decided Los Angeles would be better if we exported the members of a growing band of violent Central Americans who preyed on their own people. We sent them south and now thousands of families and unattached kids are coming here to get away from the gangs we exported. That’s Karma!

We have created this mess and the economic money we are throwing at it ends up going into the gang’s pockets. We criticize the governments for getting tough on the gangs but these governments are in a fight for survival in their countries. We criticize other countries for using violence to put down simple protests but it is necessary when those gangs are armed with guns that our business people sold to them,. It is Karma! Locking them up in gang controlled prisons doesn’t stop them. Let their government’s police and paramilitary do what is necessary. Ignore what they need to do for survival.

We caused the problem. Let those countries fix it so their people will want to stay in their countries and not flee to the United States.

Solving Our Immigrant Problem

My “Chance for Sanity Party” is an independent party and will not have a leader in the Congress or Senate. Hopefully this means both parties can step out of their far right and far left philosophies on immigration. Because of America’s past policies and actions and the future effects of climate change, movement of people around the world must be considered an American priority.

When I was young the illegal immigration was mainly men and families crossing the border to work in the agricultural industry during the growing season and then go back to Mexico. In spite of technology, we still need tens of thousands each year to plant our vegetables and fruit in the spring and harvest them later. Alabama passed a very strict law against illegals and vegetables and fruit rotted in the fields. Two years later they quietly rescinded it. We need English speakers in hundreds of thousands of tourist type jobs during the summers, without them business can’t operate. These are usually young Europeans. The U.S. Farms employ hundreds of them each summer. In addition tens of thousands of businesses need people for landscaping and construction.

We need these people for our country to survive. Most would be happy to have a work permit to come up, work, and go back home. Passing the necessary laws that both parties have wanted for years should be easy.

The flood of families and parentless kids from Honduras, Guatemala, and Costa Rica is vastly different because those people are fleeing conditions we are largely responsible for. Our policies over the last 150 years have created an unlivable condition. We have deported our Los Angeles originated gangs to those countries and now they are almost as powerful as the national governments. They terrorize the people by kidnapping, extorting, and murdering the poor and the rich.

We have played one country against the other for years. The NRA has facilitated the gunrunners while we have pushed the governments to buy weapons and to have us train their military and para-militaries in our failed methods used in “pacification” in Viet Nam. Both sides randomly kill the civilians to keep control. We have actively allowed marijuana and cocaine to be moved through them so the Feds can track it.

These policies have made life untenable so they must use the last of their money and risk their life in hopes of a safer, better life. If we can stop their countries’ collapse and start rebuilding their countries, then not only will they stop moving here, they will go back home. We can provide hundreds of thousands of jobs by moving manufacturers from Asia to Latin American. Tax incentives can make that happen. If we support people with the integrity to run their countries, then we can start to end the immigration problem.

Lost Toddlers

When the administration’s separating kids from parents was exposed, I remembered the disaster of 1940s England sending little kids to Canada and elsewhere during the Blitz. They sent thousands but got back a lot less. Some parents died, a couple of ships were sunk, and records were lost. Little kids didn’t know who they were or the name of their parents. It was years before the scope was discovered but hundreds were never returned.

All that sounds like excuses for losing immigrant kids in 2017 and 2018. Data was lost or not entered. Parents were deported without kids and vice-versa. Kids were sent to foster care and distant relatives around the country, but who went where is often unknown. How many are in limbo is really unknown. The administration said today the number could be more than six thousand! A judge says to give him the complete information within six months but the administration said it may take over two years to figure it out. Incompetence rises to the highest level of the administration.

Why Come to America?

Every year during the cooler seasons thousands of people leave Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras and start north towards Mexico and the United States in hope of a better life. Many won’t make it to Mexico because of the crime and corruption around the Mexican border. Some will be caught and sent back by Mexican border guards while others will decide to stay in Mexico for various reasons. Some will have enough money or indenture themselves to coyotes to transit Mexico and the U.S. border. Estimates are less than one-fourth of those who started will make it without being caught or die in the desert. Many will come as a group for protection.

Latin America’s mess is mostly our fault because of our government’s actions and American’s addition to cocaine and marijuana. We have corrupted their governments, economies, and peoples. My best friend from the fourth grade through Junior College was employed by an arm of the CIA building “schools” where they were built with thick concrete walls looking more like block houses on Honduras’s border. He spent most of the 1980s and 1990s going from one of the three to another depending on which our government was backing that day.

We are the reason why the drug trade has destroyed the national, district, and local governments. The narco-terrorists bribe or kill those who try to arrest them or seize their drugs. We have trained the National Police in the methods we used in South Vietnam where we moved people from villages, burned their homes, swept in at night picking up people who complain and “losing” them. The gangs just lop off heads in front of families. With the army, police, narco-terrorists, and the gangs harassing, extorting, blackmailing, and murdering both the rich and poor, it’s no wonder they want to come north for safety. The rich hop a plane and the poor walk.

How did the MS-13 and the Barrios-18 gangs get started in the three countries becoming so dominant? We deported them from Los Angeles in the late 1980’s and 1990’s. When they arrived in Honduras they quickly organized, spread out to other weakened countries, and with imported weapons became the dominate groups they are today.

No wonder those people want to come to a “safe” country instead of living in a country where torture, indiscriminate murder, kidnapping, extortion, and “losing” are common. The more a business grows the more it is “taxed”. If people don’t pay family members die. Pre-teens may have to join a gang to save a relative. We have no concept of the life these people are running away from and our country is the primary cause because of our drug habit and poor regional strategy. Isn’t that karma?

MIGRATION IS A MONSTER OF OUR OWN MAKING

Americans seem to have a problem with repeating history. We have never learned from world, European, or American history that people will move away from problems or towards a better life. The Irish fled Ireland because of the Potato Famine. Various religions sailed the Atlantic for a place to peacefully practice their religions. Most probably came to make more money. The first people across the Bering Sea may have come for adventure. The Africans came without their consent. We move to other states for many of the same reasons.

Often people go back to where they left because the conditions there changed. I think most of the Syrians that left for Europe will return when the fighting is over. Some will go back to help in reconstruction. Others will wait until regular life has returned. When, and if, conditions and economies of Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and parts of Mexico improve, I think a large number of Central American migrants will want to go back to their origins.

Why do the people want to leave their ethnic home and move to Mexico, United States, and Canada? One reason is to make more money for themselves and their families. Another is the governmental corruption in their home country allowing rampant terrorism and preventing economic growth is the most stated reason when applying for entry. We may be at least partially, if not mostly, responsible for these problems.

Over the past century we have displaced democratically elected presidents and installed dictators who have terrorized and robbed their people. We helped the Panamanians to rebel against Columbia so we could build a canal and meddle in their politics until Bush I was forced to invade and capture our former spy asset Manuel Noriega.

My best friend built concrete “school houses” in Honduras, just yards from the Nicaraguan border. We supported the Nicaraguan rebels with guns from the Iran-Contra scandal.

We have supported American companies in those countries by bribery, political pressure, and rebellion. The term “Banana Republic” came from our help to keep Dole and Chiquita Bananas in business and not taken over. Peasant workers were little more than slaves causing anti-American hatred.

Violence in most of Central America would be the usual rebel and army retaliation with CIA or DEA implications. The Panamanian involvement with cocaine was so the DEA could track it. President Trump often talks about the MS-13 gangs coming across our southern border. He may not know MS-13 was born in Los Angeles and exported to Guatemala and other countries by our justice department.

Yes, the migrants want better lives for themselves and their families. Instead of trying to stop them at the border, maybe we should spend that wall money on fixing the problems our CIA and State department created. Maybe the people still there might stay and the caravans would be moving south instead.

The Symbolic Wall

Statistics show we do not need a 1,900 mile wall on the southern border when only six suspected terrorists have been apprehended crossing that border. Seven times more crossed the northern border. Why not put a longer wall on the northern border if we are worried about terrorism?

If the administration is concerned about terrorism they should look at the conditions on both borders. The southern border is hot, dry and mostly unpopulated making it dangerous to cross. Many crossers die from thirst, snake bite and heat. The northern border is a drive down one street and turn into the United States or walking in one side of a church and out the other side, or crossing the St. Lawrence’s thousand island area on a motor boat or a canoe.

The terrorists we are concerned about aren’t from Central America. They are from the mid-east. Most of them are from commonwealth countries which means they can go from one commonwealth country to another. They fly to Canada and walk through a couple of back yards into the United States. Of course that would mean putting a wall between peoples who share the same color skin and similar language. The major difference is the people across the border find trash blowing around the countryside, roads, and cities adherent.

If we aren’t being attack by terrorists crossing the southern border why do we need a wall? President Trump’s supporters are scared our white ethnic society is being overwhelmed by brown people seeking a better life. Black skinned people are already here. The term minority used to mean black, brown, “yellow”, and “red”. Millions of white people don’t want to become a minority. The 2018 election shows the nation’s political elite are being subverted by non-white people and non-white women. The latter may be even scarier to some white men.

Most of us have accepted seeing people from Mexico and from countries south of Mexico. For years they have been doing jobs other people wouldn’t do. A few years ago the Alabama legislature passed a law where people hiring illegals would be arrested, fined and maybe jailed. After two years, the law was rescinded because the Alabama residents didn’t pick vegetables, wash dishes, do landscaping, and other hard work jobs.

Many if not most of the illegals wanting to do the jobs we won’t would work here for nine months, go back home, and then come back. If they can’t be sure of sneaking back in they bring their families. The long promised work visas are still a dream. Is Trump’s wall symbolic or racism?
