King? Emperor? Dictator?

Donald J. Trump has always thought more of himself than anyone else because of his pampered life. He has lied, cheated, and flouted laws all of his life. He has deceived millions of people into thinking he is looking out for their best interests by catering to their lowest denominator. He is able to jump back and forth over the fence while deceiving each side into believing he is defending their values. The following are four of his deceptive practices. He has always been a racist like his father. The white supremists know this, but he has managed to convince some racial, ethnic and white people he isn’t. When he was running, he was asked about his religion and what church he attended. He told which one, but the minister barely remembered him. When asked about the difference between the two sects, he didn’t know there is one. He says he is against abortion, yet he has given tens of thousands to Planned Parenthood. He actually said he is for the sanctity of marriage. He is a confessed adulterer and married three times.

When Trump is cozying up to his dictator friends in public and private, he jokes about how he wishes he could get rid of the press and the investigators looking into his actions. He just said the former with Putin an in the past with Kim and Xi. Trump can’t kill journalists like Putin and the Saudi Prince, so he tries to persuade his followers that all news media is fake except Fox, which supports him. Too often Fox persuades him to do things against the input from his advisors.

Like Trump’s dictator friends, he rules by executive orders even when the law and courts have ruled otherwise. A recent example is his executive order to put a citizenship question on the census questionnaire. The Supreme Court just ruled it illegal. Another is keeping migrant children longer than the legal 72 hours. Most of his immigration policy is illegal. Shifting designated funds around by executive order is illegal.

Trump is constantly dictating to the rest of the world what he demands they do to satisfy his ego. He has pulled out of long standing treaties and alliances because he wanted to show his power. He thinks by threatening other countries with military action, he can make them kneel before him in submission. Kim is playing him now and Iran’s religious government and military are showing his fallibility. In spite of his constant claims to the otherwise, his tariff wars have accomplished nothing but closing world markets for his own country.

The President’s constant lies and threats are becoming more transparent as more Americans and nations see him for what he is: an emperor with no clothes.

Talk Softly or Shut-Up

I bet few readers ever considered I could ever agree with anything President Donald J. Trump did. Well, I do, just not the way or the constant chest thumping, narcissistic, and abusive communication he uses to destroy the good work. We differ the most on his going it alone. I am more of a Bush I in my philosophy. President Teddy Roosevelt said “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” when dealing with other countries.

We agree immigration is a problem but his politicizing and solutions are mostly wrong. We agree on the need to stop North Korea’s nuclear program. We disagree on making it so public. Quiet discussion with the same sanctions would not have backed both sides into corners. Both leaders can’t lose face and maintain their base and power.

China-America trade and espionage is a real problem and I am sure it would have quietly been handled without our public interference in their political system. Their economy is stronger, not bigger, than ours but another armed suppression is always possible if the Chinese people create problems.

I totally disagree with his mollycoddling of Putin. I would lead in sanctions and support of NATO in as loud a voice as possible and not be forced by Congress to levy sanctions. Trump has undercut NATO’s plans with Russia.

Staying in the White House, working more than a couple hours a day, eliminating the Fox Network influence, stopping constant camera appearances, and stopping his daily electronic communications would increase his effectiveness.

Teddy is on a mountain for good reason!

Cohen Tells No Lies

Did Michael Cohen lie in his first testimony to the congressional committee? Yes. That’s why he is going to prison.

Did he lie this time? The answer is NO! How do I know for sure? One of Robert Mueller’s men was behind Cohen waiting for a lie to go after him again. He couldn’t answer some of the questions because of investigations by the Southern District of New York. One of their attorneys was also behind him.

What Cohen said was not only the truth but confirmed the rumors and sources the real news media has reported. The question now is what will Mueller’s report disclose and what will the Southern District come up with and who did they indict. The city attorney for New York City is now sniffing around for taxes.

XXV Amendment Section 4

06 Wednesday Feb 2019

Posted by Commentary about the Blue Marble in Politics, President Trump, U.S. Constitution

Imagine President John F. Kennedy wasn’t killed by the bullet in the brain. He is in a vegetative state so we did not have someone who can legally carry out the powers and duties of the President. Some way was needed to keep America from having a President Woodrow Wilson situation again. Amendment XXV was proposed by Congress on July 6, 1965, only twenty months after JFK died, and was ratified on February 10, 1967.

After the amendment was enacted several Presidents have used Section 3 to turn over power to their Vice-President during an operation or procedure. It is a way of continuing the government during the hours when the President is unable to do so. The President signs a letter and copies are given to the Speaker of the House, the President Pro-Temp, and the Vice-President. When the President is able to resume his duties he writes another letter saying so.

Section 3 is simple and easily understood. Section 4 must have been written by a stadium of lawyers because it is full of legalese and hundreds of words. Why is it so important? It’s because it specifically details how to remove a President from office without their consent. I am sure the original intent was for a Wilson or surviving Kennedy scenario. However it can be used to remove a President who is mentally unfit to carry out the powers and duties of the President.

President Ronald Reagan stated to lose it before his second election as he demonstrated during the campaign. During his last year there was some discussion about whether he should step down on his own accord. I don’t remember any discussion of Section 4.

Now we have a President who demonstrates a moral unfitness and possibly a mental illness. He has lied over seven thousand times often telling conflicting lies during the same day. His narcissism is legendary. He treats women as toys for his own amusement. His boundless ego has created a fantasy world where he sees himself as emperor and able to bend everyone to his way of thinking. His lack of concentration and retention are well documented and perhaps caused by ADHD.

In his fantasy world, the realities of his intelligence community’s assessments are wrong. He thinks bullying people will always get his way and when it doesn’t, he lashes out. Lashing out when one has a nuclear trigger is scary.

Maybe Trump can be kept in line by the threat of the Cabinet or Congress unseating him with Section 4. It would be a huge step to utilize it but his thirst for absolute power may require it.

Negotiating with North Korea

25 Friday Jan 2019

In late February, President Trump will get another lesson in negotiating by North Korea dictator-for-life Kim Jong Un. After his first meeting, President Trump and many of his administration have taunted the meeting was successful because some bones, possibly American soldiers, were returned. Also North Korea has not tested any missiles or nuclear bombs since.

Mr. Trump’s lack of political experience in negotiating international agreements, his narcissism, and inflated ego has not allowed him to see he has already gotten the short end of the stick. In return for a few bones and the cessation of testing, he stopped the twice-a-year joint training with South Korea. His military leadership tried to explain how important working with the Republic of Korea is in case the huge North Korean army crosses the 38th parallel. Score 1 for Un and zero for Trump.

Why has North Korea not conducted any testing of its missiles and nuclear bombs? After they proved their weapons worked as designed, further testing was not necessary. When they blew up the nuclear testing site it was a meaningless gesture. The site had already been used up and had leaked radioactivity from the last test. It needed to be sealed and the equipment was removed before the useless building was destroyed. In fact the missile fabrication building has doubled in size and the enrichment of uranium has increased in facilities we know about. We know there are others deep underground but not where. Trump believed he had stopped Un’s nuclear program – North Korea – 2, Trump – zero.

Why is our leader being taken in by North Korea’s “Dear Leader?” Un has been trained by experts in how to negotiate with their enemies. The North Korean playbook was written during the Korean War. During the war, Kim Il Sung took months negotiating a truce. The first items on the list are where to meet and then shape of the table. Un – 3, Trump – zero. During the war, Kim Il Sung sacrificed over a few thousand soldiers to see how determined we were by how many soldiers we were willing to lose. Pork Chop Hill was a prime example.

Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il caused over a million of their people to starve to death so they could build up their military power and start their nuclear and missile programs. All three have been willing to kill millions of their own people along with millions of others to keep themselves in power or to go down with the ship if needed.

Trump’s one-on-one negotiations with Xi and Nancy Pelosi have shown he is not the negotiator he pretends to be. He had yet to realize others pretend to be friends to get what they want and his wild words can start wars.

Bribery Laws Bad for Business

31 Monday Dec 2018

It’s very easy to connect these dots. Remember during the campaign Trump talked about how the Dodd-Frank Act was bad for business? One of the first things he got Congress to change and quietly signed was a bill eliminating fines for bribing officials of other countries. That was one dot.

The other dot was telling Putin he could have the top floor of the Trump-Moscow Hotel if Putin could push it through all the regulations and restrictions. Remember he dropped the project without saying why? Want to bet somebody said it would cost millions in fines or maybe put him in jail!

Now I wonder how he got the Scotland golf course through the environmental regulations. The local officials were against it along with hundreds of locals protesting the damage to the protected area. Suddenly the commission chair pushed it through and it was built. The BBC says it is losing money in spite of his two visits to advertise it. If he bribed any of the commissioners with free memberships, that would be actionable.

Don’t you wonder who got what to get Trump-Chicago, Trump-New York, and especially Trump-Washington D.C. opened?

Respect the Office

In the early 1960s, I watched a BBC News article showing Prime Minister Harold Macmillan addressing about forty people at some festival. They showed him no respect and I thought that could never happen here because American could always find enough things we like about a President. People still supported Nixon as he got on the helicopter for the last time. Those people who didn’t still appreciated many of “Tricky Dick’s” accomplishments.

I cannot remember, either through my readings or memory, a President who has been so disrespected as Donald Trump. The late night shows make a nightly comedy of the lies and ideas he has said that day. Their audiences roar with applause and cheers. The Democrats have pilloried him and now the Republicans, sensing weakness, have started to publicly turn against him. The Mueller investigation has exposed the corruption in the Trump administration, friends, family, business dealings, and in the President himself.

One independent organization tracks the number of lies, fabrications, and misrepresentations. They have listed almost 7,000 instances as of December 1. President Trump cannot resist being in front of cameras and telling a string of lies or putting out lies on social media.

Americans are supposed to separate the office of the President from the person in the Oval Office. How does one respect the office when the most incompetent, egotistical, narcissistic person imaginable is sitting behind the Resolute Desk? Most of the secretaries are just as unsuited for their positions.

A Prime Minister is out when the majority of the House of Commons loses confidence in their leader. I doubt Trump ever had it. How can we respect the office and not the man?

The Future of the Auto Industry

I don’t blame President Trump for his tantrum about General Motors closing four assembly plants. They are in states he barely won by saying he would bring more and better jobs into the areas. The tariffs he put on vehicle steel and aluminum cost GM over a billion dollars. It has cost all the auto companies billions.

If all the companies are losing or passing on the costs of tariffs, why is GM closing the plants? Anyone who has been noticing traffic for as long as I have or just for the last few years has seen the decline of the sedan. We aren’t buying sedans. We are buying pick-ups, SUVs, and some cross-overs. Ford and Chrysler have already announced their closures for 2020 to 2022. What upsets Trump is the GM closures are before the 2020 elections. Remember it’s all about him and his image, not the people.

CEO Barra, who is a generational GM employee, is putting the company into artificial intelligence and electric vehicles. Shutting those plants saves money for GM’s future. Building cars nobody wants is irresponsible and having to sell them at a loss is stupid and she isn’t.

So let Trump and others rant and rave but shutting those plants to meet demand is necessary. Some of those cars were being shipped to China before the Chinese put tariffs on them in response to
Trump’s tariffs on imports. Small parts suppliers around the country will be affected also. One automotive engineer said an electric car has half as many parts.

These closings are the future of the auto industry.

Repeating History

Many of us remember these words were said by a paranoid President. “I am not a crook! American deserves to know I am not a crook!” Richard Nixon was surrounded by loyal, decent people who committed crimes at his request or at the direction of his campaign or administration. A saying that must have been forgotten by some people today is: “It isn’t the crime it’s the cover-up that will get you.” Nixon and his immediate underlings had nothing to do with the Watergate break-in but the cover-up and investigations brought them all down. Most went to jail and Nixon resigned.

“There was no collusion,” and “I have done nothing wrong.” sounds a lot like President Nixon’s protests. Those statements come from a President who has no clue as to what is legal and may truly believe he can do nothing wrong, his family can do nothing wrong, and his friends can do nothing wrong as long as they are loyal to him. Unlike Nixon, Trump will viciously attack any former friend or associate if he thinks their loyalty is questionable. Like Nixon, Trump has a loyal following that will go over the cliff with him. They refuse to see the truth about a huckster.

Like Nixon, I suspect Trump may either resign or be kicked out of office. More likely he will announce in 2019 he has done all as promised and decline to run again. The latter is to stop congressional investigations before they get to him and his questionable finances.

What Is Happening To Morality?

11 Tuesday Dec 2018

W. Durant said “A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.” Many times I have heard the religious right talk and write about how our morals are declining. I bet it started before Rock and Roll and Elvis Presley but I am not that old. The 1960s, drugs, and protests were given as examples of our decline.

There will always be individual examples of depravity and immorality. As our population grows and the reporting increases we will see and hear more evil things. Unsocial media makes the impression of our total decline worse. We have always put some people on a pillar as a moral example only to pillorise’ them when we found they had feet in the mud. Prime examples are JFK and a host of evangelists. Political people are seldom good examples.

Today we have a President who has never risen to the level of even a poor example. He is proud of the fact that he has lied, cheated, conned, and assaulted women all his life. Every day he bullies his staff, appointees, opponents, allies, and people he doesn’t know just because he can and enjoys it. He has proclaimed his ability to assault women because he is entitled and rich.

How do the moral and religious people of this country support such an immoral person? How do his supporters tell their children to act morally and talk about how great the President is? How can a religious leader tell his flock to support someone who is the antitheses of everything they are supposed to believe? Why did they pass on other nominees who have far better morals and principles?

Would people please answer these questions?
