Which Vaccine is Best

            Pfizer and Maderna say their vaccines have a success rate of over 90%. Their tests were severely flawed and we won’t take them. Maderna injected 30,000 people, half with a placebo and half with the vaccine. Of those with the placebo, 90 got sick and 5 with the vaccine.  Did they all go out without masks and into crowds to be exposed or do as we are being told to do to avoid the virus? How many of the 30,000 were actually exposed to the virus and at what levels? Both require at least two shots.

            Pfizer’s requires theirs to be kept at -90 degrees or it is useless. No hospital, drug store, or doctor’s office has equipment to keep it that cold. How cold is it when injected? Is it just a placebo when it gets to zero somewhere between the factory and my arm? How will I know?

            The Astra Zeneca vaccine is actually being tested by injecting the volunteers with the virus to see if they really will get it. Their vaccine not only has the anti-bodies in it but has T-Cells which are permanent. The anti-bodies for this disease are not permanent but t-cells our bodies produce are. We will wait to see whose is the best and then try it.

The Gump’s Know Better

            Forrest Gump’s Mother told him “Stupid is as stupid does.” And today is no different. Several Republican governors and Trump criticized Democrats and the administration’s scientists for pushing mask wearing. Now those governors are pleading and mandating masks. When their stupid supporters are lying dead in hospital hallways, morgues, and refrigerator trailers, they decided it was time to stop being stupid.

            People are criticizing Governor Pritzker for his efforts to save Illinois citizens, but he has been where Republican governors are now going. Now Republican governors are telling people to wear a mask to save not only themselves, but their families, friends, co-workers, and people they just pass by. Healthy people of all ages are going into hospitals one day and dying the next with their families dying in the next few days. Imagine not showing symptoms and infecting your parents, siblings, and children, then having to plan funerals for all of them. It has happened hundreds of times. “Stupid is as stupid does.”

Scorched Earth Policy

            When Hitler decided the war was lost and the German people had deserted him, he told the military to destroy everything as they retreated. He was telling his army to destroy Germany’s infrastructure and factories as punishment for not following him to the death.

            Today America is facing a scorched earth policy of a viral kind. Trump is not only not allowing the incoming Biden team access to intelligence briefs and the usual coordination, but he has refused to allow the incoming viral team to work with his outgoing team. He walked away from his own team in May when the polls showed he was far behind. This lack of transition coordination means the Biden team must put in their own plans and hope they don’t conflict too much with outgoing plans. Such conflict will result in delays on getting the Covid 19 vaccine to the people.

            Trump has said it is up to the states now to decide what they want to do with the virus. He has completely walked away from it and left it up to governors of each state instead of co-ordinating a policy. He knows he hailed and doesn’t care.

            His punishment for deserting him is sickness and death. What is interesting is his followers are the ones without masks and social distancing. They will be the ones suffering the most just as Hitler demanded of his army and people. Dying for one’s leader’s is stupid.

Gullible or Stupid

           Entire families of healthy people are dying because too many people won’t wear a proper mask or avoid crowds. People complain about bars and restaurants being closed without realizing if they wore a mask shutting them down wouldn’t be required. Multiply the stupidity and selfishness of one person by millions and one many have over 400,000 dead by spring.

            Even more Illinoisans decided they didn’t want a few billionaires to pay more income taxes so everybody could pay more taxes. The few the “Fair Tax” would have affected have thrown the rest of us under the bus. Now the billionaires and all the rest of us will have to pay another 1% tax!.

            Trump said over 36,000 lies and 71 million people believed those lies. His saving of manufacturing jobs is a lie. We had 163,000 less January 12,020 than December 31, 2016. Saving the coal mining jobs was a lie. We have 3,600 less coal miners. The tax cut benefited the billionaires and real estate developers in particular.

            What is this desire to play cowboy and carry a gun? Someone carrying a gun is much more likely to be shot than not carrying one. Why do American’s have more guns per capita than people in war zones? Do we really need assault weapons? Are grenades and RPGs next?

            What is the sudden affection for long beards? Is it because some men want to be like scraggy swamp stars?

            Is all this because we have succumbed to people who are handsomely paid to divide us or simply the Russians are now able to control our minds? Probably both?

            The next 69 days will be very interesting in one regard. Who will President Trump pardon for federal crimes committed? The first question is whether he will do something no other President has ever done and pardon himself. Of course he could pull a Nixon and let V-P Pence pardon him by resigning. Trump’s problem isn’t just Federal crimes but multiple states are after him for several crimes and those can only be pardoned by the same governors he ridiculed for years.

            Another would be Rudy Giuliani who has been working with at least one Russian agent. Rudy has been warned several times he is conspiring with a spy against the United States. Because he is Trump’s buddy, the FBI can’t arrest him. January 21 may be his last day of flaunting his importance and protection.

            Some of his secretaries who have stayed rather than quit when ordered to break rules and regulations at his demand, may find themselves on the wrong end of the laws they were supposed to enforce.

            Some of his family continues to commit federal and state crimes in their businesses. We are just now finding out he has been committing perjury and fraud for years. By bluffing and suing people, he has managed to get away with it. Now the curtains have been pulled back and the emperor as no clothes. How many of his family and others will be in a holding cell with him.

            He has been making friends with leaders of countries that we don’t have extradition treaties. Who will be pardoned, arrested or leave the country? Makes the news for the next 69 days of great interest… much more than the depressing Covid 19 death toll he denies.

The Swamp Deepened

            I think any of you will find this interesting. Trump has touted his success of stopping the off-shoring of manufacturing jobs. At the end of 2019 we had 164,000 less manufacturing jobs than the end of 2016. Apparently a company must apply to the Commerce Department for permission. Crazy, huh?

            One of the companies applying to move production to Mexico and Canada is injection molder International Automotive Components (IAC). Apparently they had to request to close their plants in Ohio, Kentucky Tennessee and Michigan. They were quickly approved allowing the last of the people to be laid off.

            The most interesting fact: IAC is now owned by a hedge fund. It changed its name from W. L. Ross and Company. They are maximizing profits by closing plants here and moving the production to other countries. This and most hedge funds do what they can to cut costs, sell off parts, or temporarily max revenue before taking it public. Hasn’t gotten interesting yet? How about the fact the majority investor is the current Secretary of Commerce Wilber Ross, the person who approves the loss of American jobs! Drain the Swamp? Ha, Ha!

Biden’s Priorities

            As I write this Joe Biden has won the undemocratic election. In this case the Electoral College winner also won the popular vote. How the country will be January 20 when he takes over is unknown, but I am sure it will be even more divisive and Covid 19 will be killing two or three thousand each day.

            Former Ohio Governor Tom Kasich, a moderate Republican, said Biden must try to unite the country by listening to the rural people who voted for Trump. His number one domestic priority must be to unite us while starting to actually win the virus battle.

            Biden’s number two priorities must begin with his crucial first phone call to a leader of a foreign country or organization. Trump has destroyed our relationships with every country we had been friends with and developed friendships with our enemies. This may be more difficult than uniting us. Four years ago we were the country people still looked to for world safety and stability. We were the reason NATO had kept the peace in Europe. We kept the peace in Central and South America. We were the bulwark in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Philippines, and Japan.

            Biden will have to change the President of the United States from the laughing stock the rest of the World thinks to one who is a trustworthy and reliable friend or enemy.

            Both priorities will be extremely difficult and I hope he can accomplish both.

Voter Suppression

            I used to be a Democrat. I changed to being a Republican during late Reagan-Bush years. I thought we had a chance for a third party with Ross Perot and now I vote for the best one of either major party.

            Voting means a lot to me and I don’t do absentee or early voting because it would lose some of the aura. Voting is critical to being a citizen of the United States. My first vote was for LBJ and I have voted for the winner sometimes and sometimes not. That is why I consider suppression so totally reprehensible.

            Over the last few elections the Republican Party has been suppressing votes by keeping people from voting and tossing out votes. A black Democratic woman would have been the Georgia Governor if the Secretary of State (the winner) hadn’t suppressed voting in Black areas. The Republican Texas Governor reduced the ballot drop off boxes to one per county. The vast majority of those in multi-million population cities were Democrats. The Republicans just lost a state and federal suit to not count 125,000 votes from drive through voting in the big cities. Several states have had their absentee votes counting questioned in court. Even more upsetting I when gun toting idiots stand around voting places questioning people they think might vote Democratic.

            I hope the next President jails, for several years, anyone involved with voter suppression or destroying ballots as a Republican did last voting time in North Carolina. It is despicable which ever party or group does it.

Excessive Force

I would like an answer as to why a law enforcement officer feels the need to shoot for center mass (chest) when a person is standing ten feet away with a pocket knife or no weapon. The same applies when a person is sitting in a car slowly moving or parked. If a person has no weapon or a table knife and is walking or running away, why shoot to kill?

If a real threat arises then center mass makes some sense for an actual defense. So many black people have been shot by ten to twenty bullets from ten feet! Why not take out a leg or two to stop the person? If they are in a car shoot out the tires and not spray the inside and hit little kids.

Training needs to be revised along with laws for cops that are overly cautious, overly excited, poorly trained, or just plain murderers. Has this only been a recent development — No! It has been around for decades and more prevelant with minority populations.

Too many well-meaning people criticize the police protest when they do their job of trying to arrest bad people, and just make matters worse. If the police get rid of the tiny number of bad cops, we have to allow the rest to do their jobs with the training and tools they are given.

Is TicTok Still a Threat?

            Remember the notorious TicTok social media company that the President said was a Chinese espionage threat? He said he would close it down in the United States if it wasn’t sold and if it was, the government would get a commission.

            So what happened to the great TikTok threat? It is owned by Chinese citizen Zhang Yiming. He has sold 20% of it to Wal-Mart and Oracle. The owners of both companies are heavy supporters of Trump’s campaigns. The “Potential” for espionage is going to be increased when their websites and activities are blended into TikTok, not reduced. The Chinese government has said they like the deal.

            Was it a financial drain to Wal-Mart and Oracle to come to Trump’s aide? Absolutely not since TikTok will go public next year and double or triple their investment! It’s always good to have a President pick his friends to get even richer. Do Larry Ellison and the Walton family really need a few billion more? Wasn’t that tax cut for him and them enough?

            With the Chinese, Ellison, the Walton’s, and Trump happy, the fear of spying has disappeared. Even Trump’s easily deceived base didn’t get as excited as he hoped. Was it a con on all of us from the start or just another of Trump’s fantasies?
