This Really Smells Bad

        Sometimes, putting two and two together, we get five or even more. Let’s see what number all this adds up to when we put what we know together for sure.

            One, the Trump organization tried to put a hotel with his name on it in Moscow and the deal didn’t go through. We don’t know why. Did Putin want too big a price like he gets from everyone else or does he know something we don’t?

            Two, we know there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian intelligence in 2015 but not enough proof to indict anyone. We know they hacked into the Democratic Party’s files, plans, and e-mails and gave them to Trump’s campaign.

            Three, we know Trump met with two high level Russian Diplomats with only an interpreter present in the White House. The law requires notes of such meetings so the interpreter’s notes were edited and then approved by President Trump himself. This was about two years after Putin’s pick for the Ukrainian President was kicked out and the Pro-Western Zelensky installed. The Russian supported rebels and Russians undercover troops took the Easternmost Provinces and landed troops in the Crimea. Trump withheld help that the Ukraine needed and which might have kept Putin from his attempt to capture Kiev. Trump gave Putin’s lie that it was governed by Nazis.

            Four, The Russian Media has been found to be flooding the social media with lies about anyone or organization against Trump and putting out many lies in his support.

            Five, Elon Musk is suddenly putting tens of millions into a PAC supporting Trump and going to his rallies after he met several times with Putin and other Russians. What was discussed neither side will say. Both sides now say their people were wrong and the discussions never happened.

            Six, we know that several American companies are still operating in Russia and/or buying Russian oil and fuel which was refined in India. These companies contribute to the Trump PACS.

            So two and two has added up to six and how many more points I don’t know since most of this is kept secret. The American Government and NATO have named Russia as an enemy and Putin has arrest warrants against him so he must be very careful on leaving Russia or being arrested. NATO is standing with America on supplying weapons to the Ukraine and Trump wants to withdraw from NATO. Putin’s cyber teams have been supporting Trump’s views on our pulling out of NATO and stopping help to Ukraine.

            President Trump’s state and security people have said they don’t think he should be President again. Maybe it doesn’t just smell, maybe it is a terrible stink!

The Dilemma of Leakers

Normally, I am against most leaks in government, but we have a President that is incapable of telling the truth. His press minions are sent out to lie, his tweets are usually lies, and his speeches are total lies. Without leaks we have no way of getting the truth. That’s our dilemma; truth or lies.

Our reason for invading Iraq was based on lies concocted by the executive branch. The few leaks were downplayed and anyone printing or airing them were called traitors and un-American. We are still in Afghanistan mainly because of pulling troops and materials out for Iraq and continuing to short the Afghanistan War. That is from several leaked military studies made public.

I don’t think we need to know everything but we must have a reason to mostly believe our leaders. We must have some leaks so we aren’t conned into another Iraq war. We must have confidence in economic reports that everyone uses. When a President orders the statisticians to add a percent to the GDP, it destroys any credibility of our economic reports.

When a President has done business with Russians and won’t release his taxes, we should be concerned. When he wants to cut his taxes from 35% to 15% we should see how it affects him.

Without leaks the close Russian ties would not have been known and investigated. Leaks have shown the European news media’s reports that the United States is no longer the leader of the free world is true. Putin’s latest comments about our President is the same other world leaders have been saying for some weeks.

Without leaks we would be following Alice down the rabbit hole into a Trump fantasy land!

Unstable Leaders Can Kill

October, 1962, I was a high school sophomore. I still remember watching some of our neighbors suddenly digging “Root Cellars” during the Cuban Missile Crisis. People around the world were nervous about an imminent nuclear war. Our neighbors were terrified because McLeansboro had been the Initial Aiming Point for mock attacks on Evansville. Seeing B-52s and their contrails left a lasting impression.

JFK and his experienced, level-headed advisors averted the catastrophe by his and Khrushchev’s agreement being trusted. When the evidence of the Cuban missiles was being shown to allied leaders, DeGalle said it wasn’t necessary because the President was an honorable man.

Both leaders operated under Mutual Assured Destruction policy which meant a war would destroy both nations and likely the entire planet. Both knew a misstatement or an unplanned action could launch either country’s missiles.

Secretary of State Tillerson recently came close to saying we were prepared to make a first launch in order to hit North Korea’s missiles and nuclear facilities before they launch.

Kim Jung Um is unstable, megalomaniac, and like Hitler, has no regard for his people. People know his statements have little meaning. Kim has stated his missiles could destroy all the American bases in South Korea and Japan. How does anyone know when it’s a warning or bluster? We have ICBMs targeting his country; when do we launch? How can we be certain of hitting every mobile launcher?

Kim might launch because our President, whose stability is questionable, says or tweets something provocative. Many reports have been aired by the media of several foreign countries of the mental state of President Trump and his advisors.

If our missiles start flying over China and Russia to hit North Korea will they sit idle or launch?

Alternate Reality

This is scary and would be funny if it wasn’t so indicative of the new President. Kelly Ann Conway, one of Trump’s closest advisors, said they have alternative facts when the media doesn’t agree with their line.

Apparently it was an alternate fact that Trump would release his taxes. Another alternate fact is he had the biggest election win ever. Another is he will drain the swamp of the rich people running the government. Don’t forget he wouldn’t have any conflicts of interest by January 20 and the Russians had nothing to do with his winning the election. That’s only the edge of their alternate reality.

It is extremely scary when the President doesn’t realize the rest of the world is in the real world. Some of those people have nuclear weapons. Reagan apologized for his joke that he had just launched a nuclear attack on Russia. If it had been live radio, we might not be here. President Truman’s comments that South Korea could defend itself without American military led to North Korea’s invasion of the south. Our Ambassador to Iraqi thought she was following Bush I’s comments when she told Saddam we wouldn’t object to his invading Kuwait. I am sure historians can contribute more instances.

A President must be careful of every word he says, writes, or in Trump’s reality, tweets. America can cease to exist in fifteen minutes after some stupid statement or tweet!
