The current estimate for the so called Social Security lockbox to start running out of money and causing reductions in the monthly checks is 2035. The reduction would be about 20% for a few years and then more. As our population becomes elder, living longer because of Medicare, and less people paying into it, severe cuts will be necessary.

As we perfect robotics we will need less and less people working in manufacturing things. As artificial intelligence gets more intelligent it will allow robots to do more, replacing more manufacturing workers, and replacing those white collar people who never thought they could be replaced. Those who lose their job will no longer be paying into Social Security but will be drawing from it when they reach retirement age. That means less in and more out.

My first suggestion to increase the lock box and remove the wage cap on payments into the lockbox and limit the amount of payout based on a gross of, say 100,000. It is a fair trade for those very wealthy people getting rich by being involved in the robotic and AI replacements.

Another idea is to have companies pay into Social Security for each person a robot replaces. Figuring out those replaced by AI may be much harder to figure. A few decades in the future these payments will be harder to calculate but necessary to support the people they replaced.

The first suggestion is fairly easy though the wealthy are going to fight it. Remember Clinton and Gingrich had a 75 year fix before the scandal 27 years ago. Now the fix requires a harder and greater fix! The longer it takes the harsher and inventive the fix must be.
