The term cult is defined as a social group or movement characterized by shared, intense devotion to a special person, idea, or ideology, often maintained through manipulation, isolation and authoritarian control.
By definition a cult requires a group of people to be a part of a movement and an authoritarian figure to manipulate or to facilitate the goals. We have a perfect example today of where a group’s greed to make money is making the planet uninhabitable. In 1955, oil companies funding the Air Pollution Foundation were told at the Western Oil and Gas Association meeting increasing carbon dioxide would increase atmospheric temperatures significantly impacting the planet’s life. In 1959, the warning was repeated in a meeting at the American Petroleum Institute. They were told significant temperature increases, rising sea levels and ocean warming would be occurring by 2000.
In the 1970s and 1980s the oil companies’ own scientists projected what is happening today and the companies campaigned harder that we needed to burn more while denying their own scientist’s work. They started and funded groups who were paid to be climate deniers and paid some scientists to go before cameras and reporters to call it a hoax.
The authoritarian figure in the definition who is manipulating the cult is President Donald J. Trump. Through his executive orders he has opened up protected areas to drilling, reduced and eliminated laws for coal, oil, and gas power plant emissions, demanded high polluter plants keep running, while stopping wind and solar projects. Since Trump only gets that involved in anything is when he I making money for him or his family. We can only believe its greed or his hatred for anything the person who defeated him pushed for. For a president who wants to be remembered for great things, history will show he shortened the time when we faced disastrous changes in climate.
The fossil fuel companies and President Donald J. Trump are definitely a Cult of Death and greed!
